SWF insertion probs for cs3 dreameamweaver newbie

‘test or be tested’ the latter taking centre stage as i read as much regarding aspects that i don’t know about concerning cs3dw where the learning curve is steep to average but having a good time.
what eludes me at the moment is the ability to just run normal swf files created. i can view them by double clicking on them and they play perfectly but when i drag them into my dreamweaver page, or insert/flash etc, save the page and then go ‘preview’, what i have read in many forums the ‘dreaded clear white screen’. The script content is all in the right place.
That said i have no problems putting in flash video where the problem here is massive file sizes which limit who can play them.
any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated
